School is out for the summer and Monday officially kicked off Cambridge Commons'<\/a> Summer Lunch Program for the community's youth residents! The community partnered with the Dorchester County Board of Education<\/a> to provide lunch meals daily, Monday – Friday, until school resumes in September. About 30 – 40 children in the community have participated, with more anticipated to join throughout the summer.

\n“Due to residents who lost their SNAP benefits after COVID, I wanted to find a way to address food insecurity for youth residents, especially during the summer when they are out of school,” said Resident Services Manager Lakeshia Pinder-Jackson.

\nDuring the lunch, the young residents also played games to get to know their neighbors while socializing, including Connect 4, Trouble and Jenga.

\n"I hope this will have a positive effect on each child’s physical and social health and I am so excited for this program," exclaimed Pinder-Jackson.<\/p>\n
