Over the past few weeks, Hollins House has been busy with a variety of activities! For National Hot Chocolate Day, which was on January 31, residents were treated to delicious hot chocolate and coo
kies in celebration for the national holiday. Residents enjoyed light music and friendly conversation – a delightful afternoon for all!
To promote health and wellness amongst residents, the physicians and students from the University of Maryland have resumed their weekly visits to Hollins House. The visiting physicians are medical experts from the University’s Peter Lamy Center on Drug Therapy and Aging, with the students working directly under the physicians in the center’s interdisciplinary class on aging.
During each visit, residents are shown a health-based presentation from renowned medical professionals from around the country, followed by the physicians and students engaging one on one with residents to monitor blood pressure, review medications and to discuss other health related matters. The presentation concludes with an exercise class for the residents to participate in.
