On October 19, 2023, Taney Village residents came together to organize an International Dinner to celebrate their diversity and bring people from different cultures and backgrounds together.
Resident volunteer Edwina Stewart, along with other residents, took initiative to organize the event, but it was made possible by everyone who brought food.
Stewart and other residents noticed a gap between the residents living in the community from different backgrounds and wanted to encourage a dialogue between the groups.
"When we began the meal, we took time to share what countries we or our families are from," said Stewart. "I hope that we will expand that dialogue so that people can understand that every country and every person share similar ideas–we all love food, cook and eat, music and family."
Residents were encouraged to bring favorite dishes from their home countries, resulting in a delicious array of food from all over the world. They were warmly welcomed with friendly smiles as they arrived at the community room for dinner.

he food selection was diverse and featured dishes from ten different countries, including Venezuela, Costa Rica, Poland, Greece, El Salvador, Chile, Italy, America, Peru, and Guatemala. Some of the food options included beans and rice, spinach pasta, black meat, enchiladas, Italian meatballs and more.
Residents were given a wonderful opportunity to learn about different cultures and people, while breaking down fears and misunderstandings. By bonding over their shared love for good food, music and company, residents created moments of joy and appreciation for each other.
"I hope that we will expand this dialogue next year, “said Stewart.
A very special thank you to Taney Village residents who contributed to this fantastic dinner. This event was more than just a gathering for food; it brought together people of diverse backgrounds, broke down barriers, and celebrated the unique qualities that make us who we are. What a great reminder to show that no matter where we come from, we can all sit down at a table and share a meal, and that is something truly special.
