GEM Spotlight: Digital Milestone for Park View at Ellicott City Residents

  |     |   Community Story, Event

On March 13th, nine residents at Park View at Ellicott City I & II celebrated their successful completion of a five-week Google Chromebook literacy program, led by Malarie Burgess, Digital Inclusion Specialist with the Howard County Department of Aging.

Throughout the program, residents gained essential digital skills—including navigating the Chromebook operating system, using apps, sending emails, and browsing the internet—encouraging them to stay connected and more independent in today’s digital world.

This was the second Chromebook training hosted at the properties, with the first session held in Park View at Ellicott City I and the most recent class at Park View at Ellicott City II. Residents from both buildings were invited to participate in either session, fostering a shared learning experience across the community.

Digital literacy programs, like the one offered to seniors at Park View at Ellicott City I & II, play an important role in helping seniors stay digitally connected to today’s connected world. By learning how to navigate technology, residents can stay in touch with loved ones, engage with online communities, and access important resources.   These new skills empower them to find health information, read the news, and manage tasks like telehealth appointments, online banking, and so much more without needing to leave home. The benefits go far beyond convenience—this training opens doors to greater independence, confidence, and connection.

A special thank-you goes out to the Howard County Department of Aging, Burgess, and the Park View at Ellicott City site team for their support in making this program a success. What a great collaboration to ensure residents have a welcoming and engaging space to learn and grow.
