Valentine's Day is all about spreading the love, but also encompasses the
importance of heart health. Edgewood Commons 635 used the holiday to give residents the opportunity to take advantage of health screenings, tests and listen to seminars presented by local organizations.
Edgewood Commons 635 invited community partners Ounce of Care, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Giant Food and local medical provider FiveMedicine to give presentations and provide resources for residents.
Throughout the afternoon, residents were able to receive blood pressure tests, BMI and glaucoma screenings. They listened to guest speakers including registered dietitian Alexandra Brown, family nurse practitioner Dr. Erin Athey, Chief of Social Determinants of Obesity and Cardiovascular Risk Laboratory at NIH Tiffany M. Powell-Wiley MD, MPH and international Chef Irene Cusion. After the event concluded, cupcakes and goodie bags were given to each resident!
