At Stony Brook, residents aren’t just neighbors—they’re a community. Stony Brook Youth Volunteers, in collaboration with the Healthy Community Action Team (HCAT), took an inspiring step toward a healthier future by rebuilding their beloved community garden.
This initiative, supported by HCAT, provided five brand-new garden beds, replacing damaged ones after a tree fell last year. With each bed valued at approximately $500, this project is a testament to the power of partnerships and the dedication of local youth.
Over two weeks, more than 15 middle and high school student volunteers dedicated 10 hours of their time after school to assembling the garden beds inside the community center. Working in small teams, they gained hands-on experience using tools, problem-solving, and collaborating to bring the garden back to life.
This effort aligns with Enterprise’s Health & Wellness impact area, which focuses on encouraging residents to make informed food choices. With the new garden beds in place, HCAT will host gardening and healthy meal preparation workshops throughout 2025, teaching residents how to grow and cook nutritious food.
But this project is about more than just growing fresh produce—it’s about growing connections, confidence, and community pride. The Stony Brook Volunteers have shown what’s possible when people come together to make a difference.
A special thank you to HCAT, the Stony Brook Youth Volunteers, the Resident Services team and all involved team members for their hard work and dedication. We can’t wait to see what’s next as the garden continues to flourish!
