Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect on the people and interactions everyone is grateful for throughout the year. At Park View at Catonsville and Owen Brown, associates showed that each of the community's residents should be appreciated by hosting Thanksgiving luncheons.
The Park View at Catonsville site team prepared their lunch at the community for residents that wanted to interact with their neighbors and enjoy a flavorful meal. Property Manager Suzette Wiley and Porter Victoria Houston prepared turkey, ham, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, green beans and an assortment of cookies and cupcakes for dessert. Residents took home leftovers to eat over the next few days.
“We did have a Thanksgiving lunch last year and we might continue this every year,” said Wiley. Residents mentioned that each year's luncheon continues to exceed the previous.
For residents of Owen Brown that may have been unable to travel to visit friends and family for the holiday, a Thanksgiving dinner was held by the community's site associates. Property Manager Tina Roman, Assistant Property Manager Nicole Stewart and Porter Jackie Godinez organized the evening and decorated the community room with festive tablecloths with fall-themed plates, utensils, napkins, mints, chocolate, halos, owl salt and pepper shakers and owl push pump hand sanitizer.
Volunteers who were able to participate warmed up the food and delivered plates to residents who preferred to stay in the comfort of their own homes. Prior to the feast, residents were also encouraged to donate a dish of their choice for the event and can be as simple as a dessert or beverage to share.
Several residents volunteered, including Denise Whitaker, a regular volunteer, and her 96-year-young mother Cora Showel, who loves being a part of the group to socialize. Their neighbors Ruth Haskins diligently serves with a smile and Halima Bagaaya serves up for the group, as well.
“We were able to serve 27 people and individuals were able to take something home with them for later. They enjoyed time with each other and good conversation,” mentioned Roman.
Brown ordered a Bob Evans holiday meal consisting of pot roast with onions and carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, corn, string beans with ham, macaroni and cheese, pumpkin pie and bread, apple pie and dinner rolls and purchased three additional roasted chickens from Sam's Club. A resident that was unable to attend the dinner donated homemade macaroni and cheese and Stewart baked yams.
Residents were gracious enough to bake and purchase a plethora of other food to share, including a small turkey, corn, mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, string beans, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, cool whip, sweet potato pie, marble ring cake, lemon ring cake, blueberry pie, a variety of flavors of ice cream, cinnamon buns, cupcakes, mints and chocolate.
Special thanks to Property Manager Suzette Wiley, Porter Victoria Houston, Property Manager Tina Roman, Assistant Property Manager Nicole Stewart, Porter Jackie Godinez and the resident volunteers. Thank you for prioritizing residents for the Thanksgiving holiday by providing delightfully delicious meals and promoting a strong sense of community amongst residents and associates alike.
